I'm so disappointed. We've come here before and had a great experience. But after tonight, I'm sad to say we will not be returning. For starters, let me say the runners/waiters are great. Very kind and generous. So my 1 star is equal to 5 for them. But since my review is based on overall experience, I have given 1. I recommend anyone with the decency to show gratitude for service and saying thank you to the servers after receiving meal/drink to go elsewhere for a date night. You'd be better off watching a movie in bed with a six pack where you can snuggle with your significant other. Otherwise, you may find yourself baffled as I am after being asked to stop "conversing" or you'll be asked to leave. And if low/short conversation with your spouse is equivalent to chuckling during movie and asking "What type of beer/What did I just put into my mouth?" is considered distracting, then I would recommend you take your money elsewhere. And to think we paid $97 and some change for a movie I have on the shelf at home, only to feel awkward as I kept catching the manager staring us down from row behind us or from bottom of theatre by ramp. Yeah,... No thanks.
I enjoy the cult classics and older films shown from time to time, and movie parties. The atmosphere is pretty hip and laid back, and a nice gathering place for true film geeks. The food is great (Mexican vanilla shake and fried pickles!
I love the Alamo! Where else could you watch a movie (for an average price) while eating food from an excellent restaurant? No where else in Corpus! They are strict about noise so you won't have those boisterous people ruining your movie, plus you have the option to order dinner. The Alamo is my favorite restaurant in CC- the food is that good. Traditional movie fare is a bit pricey, but popcorn and soda have free refills, and you should just skip going out to dinner (or lunch or breakfast) and just order it here. Menu prices are average compared to other restaurants. The rewards program is also decent.
I thought that the staff entering and exiting the theater would bother me, but I rarely noticed them. I did miss the recliners like at other theaters. However, ticket pricing was better at Alamo, and the overall feel of the theater was much more homely than anywhere else. Tips are expected for service, even if you only order drinks, and keep in mind that you cannot bring in outside drinks. Another perk is that it is close to homes on the south side of Corpus Christi. I am impressed.
Food is pricey, but not bad. Some theaters have a good amount of room, but I'd suggest a smaller theater because they have me elbow room. The staff is lively and friendly. There is minimal distraction from them taking and delivering orders. The sound is good, and the floors didn't feel sticky. All in all a great experience. If you plan on going with a date expect to pay between $50 and $75. I didn't go to a themed showing but have heard good things about them.
