Food was great. I had the fried rice with Chinese sausage, pork belly, short ribs and a fried egg. Really huge portions and enough for 2 meals. The place was small and crowded though and it seemed as if the ac wasn't working.
Very fresh homemade Asian food! Beef short ribs are tender and very tasty. My daughter loved the rice bowel. My son has been to Z Counter many times and always liked his meal. My husband works for Homeland Security, his coworkers eat there often and also like it very much! I can recommend Z Counter!

This has been my daughters favorite place to eat when living in corpus. She came home to visit and we bought "To Go" rice bowls for her to take home and for us to eat this evening. We waited 45 minutes in no a/c for our order. Several people came in after us and were already eating and almost finished before I decided to check on our order. The girl at the counter had it ready but didn't get it to us. Said they had to redo one of the 4 rice bowls but just let the order sit on her counter until I asked. My husband and I just sat down to eat our bowls and discovered very little meat (4 pieces of beef in the beef and rice bowl). I expect a little better customer service and food for $50. I've eaten there before and it was great. However I won't go again.
Z-counter is small and stays packed. A positive indication of what to expect, This restaurant excels at creating a broad unique menu and they serve it fresh, hot or cold depending on the selection. Menu is filled with cryptic Asian named dishes and the staff will easily tell you what they are. There is a wall with pictures of the plates, and everything I have tried was excellent. Prices seem a bit steep, until you realize there is leftovers due to the portion size. I recommend sharing something.
