Preface: it was after Harvey hit so things were getting back to normal. I reserved my room by phone and had to call back to get an email confirmation (that I still never received). I was on the 3rd floor and it reeked of smoke (who has smoking rooms anymore...fire hazard much?) My sheets were dirty/stained. The parking lot was too small. Room was cheap but that's about the only good thing.
Worst Candlewood Suites ever. My room is filled with mold. Pretty sure there is some sort of bugs in the room. The hotel smells like a fart in general due to some sort of water related incident (not the Hurricane). I stay at IHG hotels 3-4 months a year for work and this is by far the worst one I've stayed at.
A wonderful experience. I had a planned stay to visit my father that turned into a medical emergency for him. They graciously extended the mid-week rate over to the weekend. They were full and really didn't have to do that. I truly appreciated the gesture!
If I could give this hotel a negative star rating I would. Before making this negative review, not only did I send an email to whom I believe was the DM in search of a resolution, I conveyed my dissatisfaction to the receptionist at the front desk, where the resolution I received from her was absolutely beyond astonishment. Upon arrival and having to park in a fire zone, as there was no where to park, literally, we checked in after driving over 6 hours; tired, just wanting to relax, clean up, and go to sleep, we got to our room and realized that was not going to happen. I reserved a suite with a king bed, and my preferences were dually noted on the website and app, and at all other previous, IHG hotels I've stayed, not only were preferences not acknowledged, or taken into consideration, they were completely ignored. The receptionist, took it upon herself to "upgrade" my room. Upgrade to me, means to give me a better room than I originally booked? Needless to say, we walked to our room next to the pool, bottom floor by a backdoor, by the elevator, next door to a barking dog, and a high traffic area. Explaining my frustrations, I had was addressing a conference the next morning promptly at 8am, meaning I was there, set up, and greeting the attendees, conversing and individualizing and making it personal for each. We actually recieved, a seemed smaller than an queen more like a full sized bed. My husband is a big man and the bed was less than satisfactory. The room... walking in we were slammed with the smell of mold, dirt and dust. The smell was disturbing, and both my husband and I have horrible allergies, and we're not only sneezing all night long, we were hacking and coughing, congested, itchy and watery eyes, it was absolutely horrible. I went to the office and told the receptionist and she shrugged her shoulders and said, "sorry" smiled and laughed me off. The resolution I was offered is even more disturbing. Not only was the couch damp, the carpet was left in and had waves throughout. The air conditioning did not cool but the fan ran. I was given some lysol and told to spay the bed, the carpet, the couch and to turn off the fan and spray the inside of the air conditioner, to spray the curtains, and to prop the door open for the room to "air out" after I spray it. I was wanting to find another hotel to stay out, my husband told me to "take one for the team and write an email tomorrow". We were both tired and exhausted. The recliner in the room was tattered and torn. The restroom was not spotless, there was a bar of soap that had been used on the ledge of the bathtub, so I assume the guests before us attempted to be clean, more so than the hotel or housekeeping actually is. The lighting in restroom was yellow, not low light, yellow. As a woman who has a position where my makeup is important as I am speak publicly, and professionally, appearance is a huge part of my wardrobe. I had to sit in front of a window and do my makeup our of a compact mirror. Now if this would have been my only complaint I would of disregarded it completely, but with everything else being more than a mishap, I will never recommend or refer this hotel to anyone. In the morning about 9:00 my husband I see my husband, who was going to stay at the hotel until about noon, check out is at 12:00, but I find out, not one, not two, but three see rate house keeper walk into our room to see if we were still there. He felt like he was put in a compromising situation, and felt awkward. He said the first time he heard a knock, he answered and they knew we were still there, but the house keepers kept returning and no further knocks were heard, but they did walk in, then apologized. Before writing this negative review, I did email the hotel, and the DM. I've still been offered no resolution and no contact has been made with me. Disappointing.
The hotel is centrally located the staff are polite breakfast was delicious
I'm going to make this clear; I am a happily satisfied IHG, Spire member. I love staying with the IHG hotels, as my preferences are usually honored, whether I am staying for business or with my family on vacation.
